About Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park

Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park is a protected natural area located in the province of Misamis Occidental in Mindanao, Philippines. Covering approximately 53,262 hectares, it encompasses the Mt. Malindang mountain range, a volcanic complex with peaks reaching up to 2,425 meters above sea level. The park is distinguished by its rich biodiversity, harboring a variety of endemic and endangered species such as the Philippine eagle, the Philippine tarsier, and native flora that thrive in its montane and mossy forests. The park's terrain features dense dipterocarp forests, mossy forests, rugged volcanic peaks, and numerous waterfalls and streams that feed the surrounding communities and agricultural lands. Historically, it was established in 1971 as one of the earliest protected areas in Mindanao, aiming to conserve its unique ecosystems and provide sustainable livelihoods for indigenous peoples, including the Subanen tribe. Recreational activities within the park are centered on nature-based ecotourism, including hiking trails to summit peaks like Mt. Malindang and Mt. Molutopan, birdwatching tours for rare avian species, waterfall trekking, and cultural visits to indigenous communities. Its clean mountain air, panoramic views, and relatively unspoiled environment attract both local and international visitors seeking adventure and tranquility. The park also serves as a critical watershed area, supplying fresh water to adjacent agricultural zones. Conservation efforts remain active due to ongoing threats from illegal logging and land conversion, but community-based initiatives have been effective in promoting sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship. Visitors to Mt. Malindang enjoy a blend of rich natural beauty, cultural heritage, and outdoor challenges that highlight the park's importance as a biodiversity hotspot and community resource.
